History of Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation

The Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation (KCMF) was established in April 2006 in memory of Kevin Cain, who lost his courageous battle with cancer in June 2005. Kevin is remembered as someone who made a difference in the lives of others by coaching youth sports and volunteering his time for worthy causes. Despite his illness, he continued to coach and mentor children in the community. Kevin’s legacy of helping others continues through the work of the Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation.

Kevin and his wife Rose encountered other cancer patients while Kevin was undergoing treatment. They met many families experiencing financial strain while fighting cancer. A cancer diagnosis often means missed days from work, frequent doctor visits, insurance co-pays, and expensive medications. Despite seemingly adequate health insurance coverage, the financial toll of having cancer can be devastating to a family.

Referrals to the Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation are received from area medical professionals in Delaware and Montgomery Counties, as well as personal referrals from members of the community. By working closely with oncology staff and social workers who have insight to the hardship each person is facing, we can provide what is most helpful to each person. In addition to trying to meet the specific need of each family, we also work to reach out to each referral request without delay. Our unique approach provides assistance in a way which is respectful of the dignity of each person.

The feedback received from medical professionals, patients, and their families strengthens our belief that we are doing important work. The Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation is committed to providing cancer patients, and their families, compassion, respect, and ultimately, hope.

The primary source of income is the Kevin Cain Make My Day 5K Run and 1 mile Walk held through the streets of Havertown, Pennsylvania every April. The Kevin Cain Race has been a tremendous success. The local community has embraced the KCMF and ideals represented by our mission to help others. Last year we had over 800 participants, which was one of the largest races in Delaware County. Preparations are being made for the  7th Annnual Kevin Cain Make My Day 5K Run and 1 mile Walk on April 1, 2012.
